Citizens Police Academy
The Citizens Police Academy (CPA) has continued to grow in popularity. Two classes were held in 2008 which graduated forty one citizens. Several more classes are scheduled for 2009 and those rosters are full. The overwhelming success of the CPA has created esprit de corps among all of the graduates and they are eager to help with the future classes.
The CPA was started in 2007 with one class being graduated. This is a revolutionary concept in law enforcement that provides citizens with a much clearer understanding of the roles and responsibilities that law enforcement officers deal with on a daily basis. Participants in CPA are exposed through both hands-on training and lectures to an officers efforts to perform their duties safely and effectively while promoting positive Police/Community relations.
CPA participants are exposed to an overview of Madisonville Police Departmental Operations, patrol procedures & functions, traffic stops, specialized units & firearms, defensive tactics & use of force, criminal investigations, K-9 operations, and a synopsis of the criminal justice system.
The citizens who graduate from the academy will, and have shared the knowledge and experiences they have gained through the academy with their families, friends, and other members of the community. This program can only enhance the relationship between the community and law enforcement in our area through the education that the graduates received.
To be considered for the Citizens Police Academy, an applicant must be a resident of, or work in the City of Madisonville or Hopkins County, pass a criminal history check, possess a valid Kentucky driver’s license, be at least 18 years of age, and have no prior felony convictions.
