Madisonville Municipal Utilities
MMU strives to deliver quality customer service. Our dedicated employees are committed to meeting customer needs for information and service including accurate billing and collecting payments fairly and equitably.
MMU offers electric, water, sewer and sanitation services to residents living within the city limits of Madisonville. Certain neighborhoods outside city limits have our rural water available. MMU currently services more than 11,500 customer accounts including residential, commercial and industrial.

Office Location and Hours of Operation
The MMU office is located at 77 N. Main St. and open Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. City offices will be closed in observance of the following holidays. Holidays falling on a Saturday will be observed on Friday. Holidays falling on Sunday will be observed on Monday:

Establishing or Changing a Residential Account
To establish or change a residential utility service, please visit the MMU office at 77 N. Main Street or call one of our customer service respresentatives at 270-824-2102. For your convenience a downloadable Application for Serviceis available. Applicants must be 18 years of age and provide the following information: Name, driver's license, social security number, phone numbers, service address and billing address. MMU may require a copy of a tenant's lease agreement.
Customers may be required to pay a deposit. MMU will use an "on line" credit information service to determine the deposit amount. A service fee of $15 will be applied to all residential accounts.
Per Kentucky Revised Statute customer deposits are returned with interest to the customer after an established period of 18 months with no delinquent notices to the account.
No transfer of security deposit to another account is permitted.

Establishing or Changing a Commercial or Industrial Account
Electric service for commercial and industrial customers shall be established by the Madisonville Municipal Electric Department at 609 McCoy Ave (270-824-2130). Upon submission of a completed application; MMED will review the customer's request, visit the proposed site, determine the construction needs, calculate the applicable deposit and assist the customer through the contract process. By providing this personalized service MMED believes the customer will receive a better quality of service and ensure all their electrical utility needs are met. Prior to establishing a commercial account, a current business license must be on file with the City's Finance Department. For more information about this process please visit the Finance Dept. Page or call 270-824-2107 for more information about this process.
Qualifying existing commercial electric customers who desire to relocate or expand may have the option to enroll in the Commercial Deposit Defferal Plans.
Water, Sewer and Sanitation service for commercial and industrial customers shall be established at the MMU office at 77 N. Main Street. Customers may call ahead to inquire about applicable fees and deposits, 270-824-2102.
MMU will process the billing of utility accounts within a scheduled timeline. MMU makes every effort to read each meter every 28 to 32 days. When MMU is unable to read the meter after reasonable effort, the customer shall be billed for an estimated consumption based upon the best information available. The due date for payment on all bills will not be less than 15 days after the billing date.
Late payment charges for all Customers will be 10% of the unpaid portion of all monthly charges, excluding arrears and taxes.
Customers who prove a primary source of income a once monthly Social Security or Disability check will be exempted from late payment charges. Customer should request a Benefit Verification Statement by calling the Social Security Administration at 1-877-626-9912. To apply in person visit 4431 Hanson Road, Madisonville, KY. Customers may be granted only one (1) late fee credit in an 18 month period. To be eligible the customer must have an active MMU account with no late penalties applied or waived in the previous 18 months.
If an account becomes delinquent and subject to termination, an extension of 5 calendar days may be allowed by MMU upon a request from the customer. To qualify, the customer must:
- Have no less than 18 months consecutive active service
- Have no delinquencies within the preceding 18 months
- Submit a payment of fifty (50) percent of the delinquent amount prior to the termination date
The extension shall only be allowed once within any 18 month period.
Ways to Pay Your Bill

On-line payment- The online bill payment service may not be available from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Online payments will not post to the account until the next business day.

Levelized Payment-Plus Plan
Effective February 1, 2013 Madisonville Municipal Utilities will transition its budget billing customers to the Levelized Payment-Plan Plus, an option for MMU customers that want their monthly billing amount to remain relatively the same month after month.
The plan is a simple summation of your present monthly utility billing, your previous eleven billings, any ending credit or debit, and a small percentage leveling factor for payment equalizing. The sum is divided by 12 giving you the current month billing. Once the average utility amount is determined Levelized Payment-Plus is designed to keep your monthly statements within a reasonable range. The difference between actual and average billings will be carried in a deferred balance that will accumulate both debit and credit differences for the duration of the plan (12 consecutive months). This plan does assist the monthly billing by better controlling higher than average winter or summer bills.

Sanitation Policies and Fees
Each residential customer is furnished one 1/2 cubic yard toter and charged a solid waste collection fee of $18.75 per month, unless a separate commercial contract is in place for dumpster service at a multi-family complex or mobile home park. All utility customers will automatically receive Sanitation service and billed for same when the account is activated.
All garbage must be contained in a city-issued toter. Additional toters are available for a fee of $5 per month.
Customers shall position their toter curbside, with the lid closed and handle facing away from the street, by 7 am the day of collection and removed by 7 pm the day following collection. For the safety of city employees seasonal hours may be observed to avoid excessive temperatures. Changes will be distributed to the local media and posted on the city's website and Facebook page.

Discontinuing Sanitation Service
If a residential unit is vacant and unoccupied for a period in excess of 60 consecutive days, the monthly solid waste collection fee can be suspended provided the owner or the person having control of the unit notifies the City in writing. The owner or person having control of the residential unit shall immediately notify the City in writing when the unit is occupied. The collection fee for the unit shall be reinstated effective the first date of re-occupancy.
Limb and Brush Collection
All limb and brush collection is the same day as the customer's regularly scheduled trash collection. If the amount is more than a half-ton pick-up size there will be a charge of $50 per load. Customers hiring tree trimmers should note it is not the City's responsibility to remove any debris the trimmers have created.
Leaf collection begins in November and continues as long as the weather allows. Loose leaves will be collected on the same day as your regularly scheduled trash collection day.
Leeves should be raked to within 10 feet of curbside. Customers are asked to separate limbs from leaves.
Bulky and Large Item Collection
Large or bulky items are collected the same day as the customer's garbage collection day. Items such as refrigerators or air conditioners, which contain Freon, must be tagged by a certified company that all Freon has been removed. Charges will apply for pick-up of items containing Freon. An additional $50 is charged for loads larger than a half-ton pick-up size load.
Miscellaneous Sanitation Services
Tire Collection - $1.50 per tire
Wood mulch and leaf compost - Loading fee of $13.25 per half-bucket, $26.50 per full bucket (4 yd. front-end loader bucket)
A drop-off recycling site is open at 900 McCoy Avenue, Monday - Saturday. Accepted recylables include aluminum, paper, cardboard, and plastic.
