South Main Interceptor Project High Priority

The City of Madisonville is committed to providing quality services in the areas of electricity distribution, water distribution, wastewater collection, and wastewater treatment.  The South Main Interceptor Project is one of high priority as it will increase the quality of sewer service provided to the citizens of Madisonville in addition to making sewer service available to residents outside the city limits.

The project area encompasses approximately 2,300 acres within the Clear Creek watershed.  Part of the area is within the Madisonville city limits, and the remainder is in Hopkins County.

Currently those citizens residing within the city limits of Madisonville, in the vicinity of South Main Street, are serviced by five City-owned pumping stations and two privately owned pumping stations, as follows:

  • Army Reserve Center (private)
  • Barney Hopkins (private)
  • Big K
  • Brentwood
  • Chateau Trailer Park
  • Country Club
  • People's Bank (Integra)

The project area also includes the Las Vegas Mobile Home Park (MHP) and Oakwood package treatment plants (PTP).  Wastewater disposal in county areas not served by these package plants is by on-site septic systems or straight-pipe discharges to abandoned coal mine shafts.

The proposed upgrade will enhance the quality of service provided to approximately 350 homes located in this area.  Additionally, the extension of new service will connect approximately 661 unsewered homes in Hopkins County with the capability of accommodating 220 additional connections.
