The City of Madisonville in cooperation with the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, Department for Local Government and the Division of Water is happy to announce that the South Main Interceptor
Project, Phase 1.A is ready to begin.
Funding for this section of the project is made possible through many sources including the Hopkins County Fiscal Court ($200,000), the Department of Local Government ($1.3 million) and coal severance funds ($300,000).
The South Main Interceptor Project encompasses approximately 2,300 acres within the Clear Creek watershed which is a tributary of the Tradewater River. Part of the area is within the Madisonville city limits and the remainder is in Hopkins County. Currently there are approximately 349 homes within the City limits, 785 homes in the county and 291 properties with potential future development.
This project will help alleviate many sewer and water quality related problems both inside the City and the County. The South Main Interceptor Project, Phase 1.A will form the framework that will elminate five city sewer lift stations, two private lift stations and one package treatment plant.
In addition Phase 1.A will provide the framework to expand future sewer services to many parts of the county that are currently under tap-on bans, lot restrictions, sub standard services, illegal dumping and help support current and future businesses that help support the local economy.
This is a very positive project and will provide a safe, reliable system for the future.
