Utility System Overview

Madisonville Municipal Utilities (MMU) offers electric, water, sewer and sanitation services for the City of Madisonville, Kentucky. Certain neighborhoods outside the city limits have our rural water service available. MMU currently services over 11,500 customer accounts including residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Establishing Service

You may request new service with Madisonville Municipal Utilities by coming to our downtown office located at 37 E. Center Street, Madisonville, Kentucky. We also have the option of putting your deposit, if required, on your major credit card. Contact our office by phone at 270.824.2102 or by fax at 270.821.0271 for further information. Requests for new service or change of service need to be made in person. All customers are required to pay a deposit unless they have a letter of credit from their most recent utility provider or have already established a good credit status with our office.

Deposit information

The customer deposit for a water meter is $20.00. Wastewater deposit is $30.00 Electric deposits for residential customers are based on a two-month average. If there is not sufficient consumption history to establish the averages the deposit is $100.00 for a homeowner and $150.00 for a renter. The residential deposit for electric for mobile homes is $150.00. There is a $10.00 service charge for establishing service for residential customers.

Commercial and industrial customers must go to the electric department located at 609 McCoy Avenue to establish the amount of the electric deposit. The electric department will determine the amount of deposit required for commercial and industrial customers.

Customer deposits are returned to the customer after an established period of 18 months with no delinquent notices to the account. This period of 18 months qualifies the customer as earning a "good credit" status. At the time of reaching "good credit" status on the account the customer will be refunded their deposit plus 6% interest.
